Installed Vegas 13 on a new laptop but keeps saying "Registration of Vegas Pro 13.0 requires elevated privileges" I am the administrator on the system.
This was a problem for some with Sony Sound Forge Pro and the workaround involves editing the registry. The workaround for SoundForge Pro was:
- Open regedit - Find the key named ''HKEY_USERS\XXXXXX-XXXX_Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Sony Creative Software" - Delete the key - Close regedit - Soundforge now works again
In that registry, I just deleted the SoundForge Pro sub-folder under the Sony Creative Software folder in order to get SFP up and running again. I presume that the same process would work for Sony Vegas Pro 13 but I cannot know for certain because the elevated privileges problem didn't occur for me with Sony Vegas Pro 13 back in the day.
Remember that when editing the registry, double/triple-check what you are doing because there is no Undo (Ctrl-Z) process in the registry, but you can export (save a backup to another folder) any registry folder before doing anything to that folder.
Once this happened to me with Sony Sound Forge Pro (10 & 11), the elevated priveleges problem recurred every 3 to 4 weeks so the registry edit had to be done again and again. The problem has not existed with Sound Forge Pro versions released by MAGIX (SFP 12 and later).
