Unable to open file...help

I am unable to open a video file in Vegas 6.0c [it does open in Windows Media Player 9.0] that I need as a guide for a larger project. It was shot on a digital camera, in Europe. I know that puts it near, or at, the bottom of the video food chain, but I still need it !

Properties:
Video - .avi extension, 320X240, 15.00 fps, 344.930 kb/sec
Audio - 11.24 khz sample rate, 8 bit, mono
* Vegas Properties message: "does not recognize video stream format".

BTW, I can place the audio on the timeline, but the video won't go.

I've been using Vegas since 2.0, and have never encountered an uncorrupted file a I could not open, until now. Any ideas, workarounds, etc. are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

Find out what kind of avi file it is as from what you are saying in your post it sounds like a divx file or xvid as I can import sound from them but not the video, but then again, they usually have a lot better quality and a higher frame rate. So, find out what type of avi it is and see if you can convert it to a useable file via a third party software.
Ex. if windows media player will play it, mabye you can use the wmv encoder to make it a wmv file that you can use as a template. You won't lose anything as the file is pretty low quality anyways and you are just using it as a guide.

It's probably an MJPEG file. Search this forum for MJPEG for a list of several good solutions. You'll have to install an MJPEG coded in order to open it.
