Pedro-Mercado wrote on 1/1/2019, 10:49 PM

Hey I recently updated to Sony Vegas 15 edit, And when I try to preview on second monitor. The preview appears on the second monitor. But it is Cut off. I have Include a screen shot down below. Coming from sony vegas 13, When Previewing the same video, it gets displayed properly at full screen. I've also copied the settings from sony vegas 13 video preview settings, but still get the same result.

Windows->settings->Display     Layout & Scale.   You need to have the same settings for both screens.

ie both set to 100% or 125% etc

Likewise Resolution should be the same for both screens.

Multiple Screens   Extend these displays

Common sense!!

I already have that. And as I said it works perfectly fine and full screens with sony vegas 13. But on 15 it shows as the image I posted.

Out of interest what happens if you set your second screen to 1920x1080?

I am using a main 4K (3840x2160) screen with 175% scaling which gives me a decent 1920x1080 preview window, and a second 1920x1080 (100%) screen. Win10 Display Settings for Multiple Displays are "Extend these displays". Both run @50Hz since I'm n PAL land. Works for me ;-)

my current Win10/64 system (latest drivers, water cooled) :

Intel Coffee Lake i5 Hexacore (unlocked, but not overclocked) 4.0 GHz on Z370 chipset board,

32GB (4x8GB Corsair Dual Channel DDR4-2133) XMP-3000 RAM,

Intel 600series 512GB M.2 SSD system drive running Win10/64 home automatic driver updates,

Crucial BX500 1TB EDIT 3D NAND SATA 2.5-inch SSD

2x 4TB 7200RPM NAS HGST data drive,

Intel HD630 iGPU - currently disabled in Bios,

nVidia GTX1060 6GB, always on latest [creator] drivers. nVidia HW acceleration enabled.

main screen 4K/50p 1ms scaled @175%, second screen 1920x1080/50p 1ms.

kinda sucks but this solved the problem. Just wished I could full screen at the native 2k. But I guess this isn't the end of the world. It still baffles me that sony vegas 13 fullscreens properly at the 2k resolution but for 15 I have to drop it down to 1080p. Literally makes no sense.

I think we have seen this issue before, but I can't remember what the solution was (will keep looking). I have dual UHD monitors and have no issues with full screen UHD preview on either 14 or 16. Don't have 15, but I think it would work the same.

Please share your system details including GPU.

Please share your windows 10 scaling details.

As diverg said, it is your windows scaling options that are causing the problem (right click on desktop, display settings, and under scale and layout, set the top option to 100%). There is a way you can specify certain apps that it does not apply this scaling to, allowing you to have a value higher than 100% so your text in 4K isn't unreadable due to being too small. That's what I did, so I can still have big text on my 4K screen while also not screwing up Vegas' preview on my second screen. Unfortunately, I can't remember exactly how to do this. In the mean time, setting it to 100% while editing will solve the issue.

So I tried this and it does fullscreen properly when I set it to 100 percent. But really isn't ideal since I would have to keep changing this over and over again. (I usually have it set to 125 percent on both 2k monitors, I followed your advice and changed the preview monitor to 100 percent but then text is too small hence when I'm not editing I would have to change it back and its just a hassle.)

I just want to say I love you🤓. I did the override thing that you suggested in that post and I am now able to full screen at 2k without changing any settings. You really are a lifesaver. And thank you.

I suppose you don't need this anymore but I run both monitors at 2k resolution and at 125 percent scale

I have a i7 6700k intel processor and a gtx 1070 and 16 gbs of ram.

Anyways thanks for everyone that commented and I appreciate the help. Take care guys!!!

Working solution with Windows 11 and displays with different resolutions and scaling:

  1.  Right-click the icon for the Vegas shortcut and choose "Open file location"
  2. In the file explorer window that opens, right-click on the icon for Vegas and now select "Properties".
  3. Click on the "Compatibility" tab at the top of the new window that appears
  4. Near the bottom under the "Settings" section, click on the "Change high DPI settings"
  5. In the new window, click the checkbox at the bottom labelled "Override high DPI scaling behavior."
  6. Leave the "Scaling performed by:" dropdown as is / selected to "Application" and then click "OK"
  7. And then click "OK" on the properties window for the Vegas shortcut
  8. Now when you open Vegas, it should properly contain the full-screen preview to the any monitor/resolution!
