Undo Select all

I'm confused a bit.

When I want to make a split over four or five tracks, I hit Ctrl-A to select them all, then hit 'S' to make the split.

Sometimes, that action, besides selecting all the tracks, also selects the track control section to the left of the screen (turning it blue). It seems that, once that area turns blue (all tracks), the only way to unhighlight it (turn off the blue), is to click at some neutral point on one of those tracks (leaving that track blue (selected), the others un-blue (deselcted).

As long as that single track's track level area is blue, I have to be careful that keyboard actions intended to move the track cursor don't inadvertently alter the track volume. I seem to be constantly resetting the cursor focus back to the timeline.

I'm editing a multi-cam shoot, so, I am constantly wanting to mute/unmute tracks so that I can select which scenes I want to incorporate into my final product, then, I usually drop a marker, hit Ctrl-A to select all tracks (that turns the track level area blue), split the clip, and edit-copy-paste the section that I've just isolated.

At that point, I have to carefully position my mouse over the blue (selected) track level area, taking care that my mouse isn't over one of the controls (FX, Solo, etc), and click in the blue area to select that track and deselect all the others.

When you are dealing with 6 to 12 tracks, hitting that blue area requires some skill.

Ctrl-A is such a convenient way to select everything - is there some equally convenient keyboard command to reverse that action? It really slows me up to have to move my mouse pointer to a vacant area of blue.

Hope my explanation is clear enough - and, thanks for any help.

Ctrl+Shift+A = De-Select all

Oh, and if you want to clear the 'blue' with the mouse anyway, I always click on the coloured track number - it's big enough that you don't have to worry about missing it.

And one more thing, if nothing is selected, all of the tracks get split.

Thanks for the reply. Ctrl-Shift-A. That's what I need to remember. Now, to some serious editing, woopeee!
