Unsupported encoding settings

Hello,

I was given an editing project with a ton of AFX and FX3 files (from final cut pro). Vegas Pro 15 won't open them. I get an error message that reads "We can't open AFX30358. It uses unsupported encoding settings".

Any advice on what I can do to see these files will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

For video media not supported by Vegas Pro, the usual advice is to transcode that media to a format (e.g. mp4 or other) that works in Vegas Pro via a free transcoder such as HandBrake or Shutter Encoder. But of course, first make sure that the transcoder itself supports the original media format.

AFX is Apple's proprietary HDV format -- you will need a converter like the ones mentioned above.

FX3 is a newer Sony camera that outputs XAVC HS -- it may open in Vegas Pro 21 but is way newer than Vegas Pro 15.

The FX3 records to a variety of formats. You can determine which by using MediaInfo on one of the files: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/
