Does it make any difference if you change the 'default recording device' in the preferences?

Failing that, is there anyway to change the sample rate/bit-depth of your sound card outside of Vegas - in the soundcards own mixer prog?

it isnt listed as the default device, I havent tried changing devices to see if itll help. The trouble is the spdif I/O that it is on is sent out to a DA converter, so theres no way ANYTHING will be seen by the spdif in. Sometimes a reboot gets rid of the trouble though which is weird. Im going to hook up an unused dat machines spdif out to the in I guess

"The trouble is the spdif I/O that it is on is sent out to a DA"

Huh? That would mean this is a Spdif out and you're problem is with the spdif in right? Is this a dual function Spdif connector? That could be part of your problem right there if it is.

well the troubkle device that says it does not support is the spdif in of one soundcard. The spdif out of that soundcard is going to a D/A

I dont need that spdif in and wouldnt mind if vegas never looked for it ever again

If it doesn't happen all the time, could there be some other thing on your machine that alters the "focus" so that Vegas thinks you want to use something you don't?
2.
Even if you don't want to use spdif in - it might help to make sure it's set to the same format as the Vegas project settings.

Is it possible that spdif in is set up as a Toslink in ala ADAT lightpipe?
