Unwanted default 640 X 480 resolution in Vegas 4

Updates' joys........
When I launch Vegas 4, it forces my computer to go from my usual 1280 X 1024 screen resolution to 640 X 480 !
So, each time I open Vegas, I have to go into Windows' display properties, change it back to 1280 X 1024, and come back to Vegas... a bit cumbersome !
Worse, even if a file (new or imported from v3) is saved into Vegas 4 format, it re-opens Vegas in 640 X 480.... I hoped that Vegas 4 needed some initial settings, searched into preferences, nope...
I use an LCD (flat) screen and a GForce4 Nidia video card, and with this very same setup, there was absolutely no such issue with Vegas 3...
Any clue ?
Thanks again !
PS : BTW, I can confirm that Vegas 4 does NOT like Emagic's XS Key (dongle) : as soon as I removed it from my computer, all the initial problems of Vegas 4's launching failures disapeared.

Hi Sir,

You wouldn't be runnning Win XP, would you?

(XP can be so un-helpful, trying to be helpful - like a doting mother trying to clean your office.)

Yes, I do run XP,
and Vegas 4 claims that it's XP compatible (and I ran Vegas 3 for months under XP with no problems), so I guess I do nothing really out of the line.
Well, I don't mean to seem rude, but your message is not really a clue for me.
Any helpful remark ?
Thanks

No offense taken - hadda ask the O.S.... and the note on XP was a hint.

While Vegas may be XP compatible, that doesn't mean XP won't act on its own. I'm not an XPee guru, hardly touched it... but I have seen it do fun things like launching Vegas when you plug-in your camera to 1394, re-associating files to apps; and I'm guessing, resetting *other* preferences when it thinks it should.

Vegas might not exhibit the behavior you report for many users, or the boards would be flooded... You might try finding tips on "dumbing-down" XP.

Windows XP has number of compatibility options in file properties. One of the options is to run a file in 640X480 resolution.

May be you by mistake have activated this option for Vegas.

Right click on your Vegas Icon. Choose "Properties" from the menu. Then choose Compatibility tab and make shure that "Run in 640X480 resolution" option is disabled.

Good luck.

P.S. VV works great with XP. To my mind, XP is the first version of Windows where Microsoft tried to think about the user.

Many thanks Stalker,
It was just as you suggested !
I did not even know about this option, and really have no clue about how it ended up being "abled".... maybe something went wrong during install ?
Anyway, now everything's come back to normal, so it's time to explore Vegas4's new features,
Thanks again !
