Just got my project over to a esata harddrive connected to an express card. Great results-Thanks John Cline.
Cineform 1920x1080 24p AVIs were getting 14-16fps off the USB connection on Preview (auto). On the ESATA drive: I was getting 18-19 fps at preview (full)! Of course, preview (auto) and preview (half) had no dropped frames.
Raylight AVIs performed even better (also 1920 x1080 24p). I get full playback at preview (full) with the ESATA.
No effects added yet. What's interesting is that at Best (full) and good (Full) cineform maintains the same playback rate (18-19). Raylight give full playback at good(full) but drops to around 10 at best (full).
STill: great performance increase!
