Updates?

I just purchased Vegas Movie Studio + DVD Platinum. I installed and registered it.

This is my first piece of Sony Software. I figured after installation and registration, I would check for updates (no telling how long it sat in the store shelf).

I have DVD Architect 4.0 that came with the suite. I downloaded and installed what I thought was an update - 4.0a.

After installation it asked for the CD key which I entered. The one I entered is the one on the CD sleeve that came with the suite. It told me that the CD key is invalid and that they key must start with ??. I forgot exactly but was different than the one I have.

So... How do these updates work? I would guess that I may not be eligible for a new version number, lets say version 5.0 from 4.0 but shouldn't I be able to go from 4.0 to 4.0a?

Thanks....

There are two "levels" of Vegas and DVD Architect -- the Studio level and the regular level. Specifically, if you buy Sony Vegas, you get Sony DVD Architect. If you buy Vegs Movie Studio, you get DVD Architect Studio. They are similar programs, but are nonetheless are different. So, when updates are released, they are for one "level" or the other, but not both.

The update you downloaded is for DVD Architect 4. Far as I can tell, there hasn't been an update yet for DVD Architect Studio 4.

Thanks Bstro... Seems a bit confusing. So... If there is an update for my version, in this case DVDA 4.0, then that is what will be listed correct?

DVDA 4.0a is not my software?

You have DVD Architect Studio 4.0.

When Sony has an update for that, it will be listed as DVD Architect Studio Update 4.0a.

DVDA 4.0a is not my software?

No. That is the regular edition of DVD Architect (the one that does not have "Studio" in its name).

I think it'll all become a little clearer by looking at the Vegas Family page, which lists the different editions of Vegas and DVD Architect.
