Updating an old video on a dvd in VMS 10

I have an old holiday video that was originally prepared in VMS 8 and burnt on to a dvd using DVD AS 4.5. I would now like to open it in VMS 10 and edit it by inserting some photographs and then burning it on to a new dvd using DVD AS 5. Before I start playing around and perhaps harming the original I thought it best to seek advice as to whether this is possible and if so the best way of going about it. Any help appreciated.

I'm sure you can do this ... but be aware that once you SAVE it under VMS 10 you will not be able to open it under VMS 8 ever again.

Just in case .. I would make my first SAVE under VMS 10 under a slightly different file name ... so that, if needed, you can still open the original file under VMS 8.

Of course, for any project file to open the original source files must still be there on your hard drives in the original locations.

Unfortunately I do not have the original source files any more, somehow they have gone missing from my back-up system, all I have is my DVD.

Well, aside from scratching, breaking, or melting the original DVD there's no way to harm it merely by reading from it.

Vegas has a function under File named "import from Camcorder DVD". Use this to import the video on the DVD into a new project. Edit away to your heart's content after that.
