Michele-Wong wrote on 7/23/2025, 3:03 PM

Keep getting error messages when I attempt to play a video in my newly upgraded Vegas Pro 22:

  • The playback device Speakers (Realtek(R) Audio) does not exist.... and they are connected
  • The request is not enabled for this device

Plus, with the upgrade now Vegas 17 is giving the same error. Running Windows 10. I have changed the: "Options", "preferences", "audio" and nothing works. Any suggestions? Thank you.

What is the source of the video? What created it?

Vegas doesn't change any sound settings. In Volume Settings, do you see Vegas?

Have you tried selecting Microsoft Sound Mapper in Options / Preferences / Audio Device / Audio Device Type?

The aforementioned Microsoft Sound Mapper ..or.. the Windows Classic Wave Driver are usually trouble free. Does the issue occur with all file types. The audio codec may not be installed. Try playback of an (audio only) PCM <.wav> file to confirm audio playback is working.

Thanks everyone for the response. Yes, I have tried Microsoft Sound Mapper as well as Windows Classic Wave Driver and Vegas still gives me the same error: The playback device Microsoft Sound Mapper does not exist.

And, all I did was open a file that I previously created in Vegas Pro 17.... so, it's a .veg file type. Won't play any video or audio file type due to errors previously mentioned! Maybe my computer is just too old to support this upgrade. I appreciate the suggestions.

On closer look.... the installation of the upgrade has removed my computers ability to recognize any audio output device across every platform (ie: youtube, spotify, nextiva, anything that has a sound output has just stopped working). Have uninstalled ALL Vegas Pro 22 components, rebooted my computer and everything works fine again - including Vegas Pro 17. Am closing this. Thank you.
