upgrade install question

My (retired) Laptop XP (with VMS plat 7) has been replaced with a Desktop (Vista32). I would like to upgrade (purchase) to the VMS platinum pro 9 from this site. Do I need my previous version installed or does the upgrade take care of everything I need to get started (again)?

I think you just need the serial number, but I might be wrong.

Thanks ...you may be right.

It is part of the requirement for the upgrade I am just hoping that the ' upgraded version ' would not require data from the previous version.

The check if you can upgrade is made at the purchase time.
When you get/download the "upgrade" (in fact a normal version) you have received the new serial number - and this is all that you need on the new machine.
