Upgrade Problems....

Jcgrant wrote on 1/27/2004, 2:52 PM
I have been using MS 3.0 for awhile(Video Factory previous to that) with no problems.
I am making a video using all pictures which would not render past 70%, so I downloaded the 3.0a upgrade, just to see if this was the fix. It turned out, that it was a problem with one of my images and not the program.

Annyway, my MS program started crashing repeatedly after this upgrade was installed, so I uninstalled the software and put the original MS software back in, but I am still getting the crashes and have to save after every little thing.

Does anyone have this problem.....was something from the upgrade left in my system?

I am running XP Home on a Sony Viao RZ22G....I have used End It All to wipe out all the backgroung programs.....I have de-activated my anti-virus....my windows updates are current.

when it crashes, do you get a specific error, or possibly an entry in the event log?
Jcgrant wrote on 1/27/2004, 4:27 PM
Oh yeah....same message every time....says "sbvfact30.exe encountered a problem and needs to close."

Any clues....can someone tell me how to look for the problem in this error code?

that is an actual application error... I suggest you email it to support using the contact support link:

http://www.custcenter.com/cgi-bin/sonypictures.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php

we can often help with "how to" questions, but something like this needs direct attention from Sony support.

Jcgrant wrote on 1/27/2004, 9:03 PM
I e-mailed Sony support and forwarded the error message yesterday.
Got a canned response from one of the techs and replied with more info, but have not heard back.

I just tried uninstalling my old copy of MS that I went back to and this time installed the upgrade from scratch, but it started crashing again even more, so I wiped it and went back to my original version.

I can use my old version pretty well, it seems to crash more so when adding the pictures in straight to the timeline and when I minimize MS. Once I get the pics on and start adding effects....it is ok.

It never hurts to clean your registry regularly, especially when installing upgrades and uninstalling and re-installing.

RegCleaner is shareware and it's very easy to use. Gets rid of the most of the troubling cobwebs.
Jcgrant wrote on 1/28/2004, 3:58 PM
Never thought of that....is this program safe?
I always try to stay away from messing with the registry.....

There's a "use at your own risk" warning, but I think that's just to cover their butts.

It's been nothing but a blessing to me. Just select "automatic clean-up" and let it do its job. (It does make back-up files just in case -- and, if you don't have any problems after a few days, you can easily delete those too.)
