Upgrade to Pro from Platinum

VirtualSki wrote on 2/14/2008, 3:20 PM
I have registered Platinum installed and Pro trial (and media manager, Loops & Samples Reference Library).

I want to purchase Pro and have a good working system as far as I can tell. Any advice regarding purchasing the boxed versus download version?

Either way, can I just perform a simple step to complete the upgrade (e.g., entering serial number or whathaveyou) or do need to go through a tedious uninstall and install? For what it's worth, I like Pro so much I'll be getting a new computer in six months. Will this present challenges I'd prefer to avoid? By challenges, I'm referring to any issues of having installed the software on another computer...

Thank you!

Download is cheaper and faster to obtain.

Yep, just enter the serial number. Since you have the trial installed you won't even have to download the installer again. All you need is the serial number and you're ready to go.

No need to uninstall first.

No problem having it installed on multiple computers. It's allowed as long as you only use it on one of them at a time.

Make sure to go the upgrade route from your Platinum. It will save you $100 or more.

Good idea, musicvid. Any thoughts about boxed versus download? I seem to recall many, many years ago when upgrading software (not Vegas), there was always an issue about installing on a newer computer a year or two later. The issue being unable to find the first edition of the software before the upgrade...or the serial number or something like that. In the end, I usually had to resort to buying a new copy.

That's not an issue with Vegas, and I recall what you are talking about from years before.
However, I've always chosen the "boxed" (don't expect a real box to show off, just a CD in an envelope) over the download for $15 more, just because of the extras and the physical media, JIC of a question down the road . . .

VirtualSki, if you want to save yourself a LOT more than $100, do yourself a favour and head over to B&H.
Buy the Vegas 6 package for $79 and the Vegas 8 Pro upgrade package for $99 for a grand total of $178.00
The upgrade direct from Sony looks to be a lot more than this :-(

The Vegas Pro 8 for $178 thread on the DV Info forum should answer any questions you may have about this deal.

We're all Vegas users so there are no strangers in this forum .
Always glad to help a fellow Vegas user save a few bucks :-)
Take the savings and buy your girlfriend/wife/kids a nice present - or some extra plugins for yourself !!!

After reading the thread, I have to install Vegas 6. Since I have a perfectly working Vegas 8 trial, complete with the media manager and SQL database (and it wasn't a simple process), I'm a tad unnerved about installing an older version over it to get back to where I'm at now.

As I recall from the thread I linked to, at least one user was in your situation.
He emailed Sony with the details and got a valid serial number so that all he had to do was enter this new serial number,
For the potential savings, a phone call/email is worth a shot.

Am I correct this offer through B&H requires ordering a "hard copy"? I'd like to get this "trial" over with (i.e., get download version)?

The B&H deal does require a "hard copy".
You're welcome to get the downlaod version direct from Sony but, as I said, the cost to you will be higher.
It's your choice.
