Upgrade VMS16 to VP21 (projects , Subtitles, Upscale, Speech to text?)

Howdy!

I currently have Movie Studio Platinum 2016, and would like to know if the later versions (I guess, most notably, Pro 2021) have features mine doesn't.

Subtitles.  Are any versions able to output subtitle files, or have them part of the video file (not burned-in, though)?  I don't think 2016 has either option.  Also, how can I create them?  I do fan edits of movies with existing subtitles; can I import (and edit) those? Another program--MAGIX--advertised as having voice to text; does MS have that and, if so, would the text be able to generate from the audio in the project?

Would I be able to upscale video, like from SD to pseudo-HD (I know you can't get true HD from lower-quality sources)?

Thanks!

@Jason-Froehlich You could download a 30 day trial of Vegas Pro 21 to try for yourself on your system. But note the system requirements for VP21.

Also note it's called VP21, not VP 2021 and the next version will be VP22. Vegas doesn't use the year in its version numbers like Magix does. Likewise Vegas Movie Studio 16 had nothing to do with 2016. It was released in 2019.

I can't answer your other questions but I have used Vegas' Upscale AI feature. I think it works great. I used it to upscale 1080p to 4K. I notice that the result isn't as aggresive as other ai upscalers like Topaz but I actually prefer it this way. I think it looks less artificial or plasticky. Make sure to select "Sharp" model in the Upscale fx.

There are several factors to consider in upscaling videos. Videos have artifacts like noise and compression blocks. They will get enlarged when upscaled. Upscale fx only deals with the upscaling part. You will need to use other fxs to remove noise and compression blocks.

Also, Upscale fx has a feature called "cut out" that can crop videos during editing without losing resolution but it doesn't work with my system. It will render super slow like 8 minutes per frame if I use the sharp model.

Great! I'll look into the trial.

And thanks for clarifying the names and editions.
