Upgraded to V5- Audio plugins still called Sonic Foundry?!

GmElliott wrote on 4/21/2004, 6:38 AM
I installed the new Vegas+DVD today. However, oddly enough, all my audio plugins are still called "Sonic Foundry". Not only that- they reside in the "Third-Party Folder"....not the "Sony" folder?!

Is this normal?

I'm certain it's only your old plugins found on the machine that Vegas 5 has picked up and place at your disposal.

If I uninstall Vegas 4 will it automatically fix itself? How do I fix this? Thanks in advance!

If you have a licensed copy of Vegas 5.0 - not the trial/demo:

In your installation directory

X:\Program Files\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins\Utilities\Migration Tools

there is a tool for migrating your FX plugins and such. Please review the readme and follow the instructions.

Contact our tech support as instructed in the readme if you have further questions or problems.

I noticed that but in the readme it states that they are installed during the software installation and there isn't a need to run it again. There are about 4 or 5 of them. Can you point me to which one specifically will fix my audio plugins being named "Sonic Foundry" and located in the "Third-Party" folder?

Tried the migration tools....no dice. Still all filters are listed under "third-party". Is there any way to fix this short of uninstalling all my programs (V4, V5, DVDA1, DVDA2) and reinstalling the new production suite? I'm checking one last time before braving phone tech support w/ Sony. I'm not looking forward to being on hold for an hour! Thanks in advance!

Try what Sonic states below....

If you bring up one of the "Sonic Foundry" plug-ins in Vegas and it has the Sony logos on it, the right plug-ins are installed, but the Vegas cache is just hanging on to the wrong name. You can just rename and move them manually or delete Vegas's DXCache registry key (in HKLM) and restart Vegas.

I have a few plugins that are still labeled as Sonic Foundry, mainly my Sonic Foundry Noise reduction plugins, because I have never updated it after it came out as a Sony release. You haven't mentioned which specific plugins didn't migrate over, so I'm thinking this might be the same problem you're seeing. As a fix you can use the plugin manager. If you want the Sonic Foundry plugins to appear in the Sony folder, alls you have to do is drag it from the third party folder into the Sony folder. You can even rename the name of the plugin using standard Windows cut, copy, paste, and rename features. You can even create new folders and organize your plugins by category also.

Well it sounds like it's the same issue- as the plug-ins do, indeed, have the sony logo in the dialog boxes. I'm a chicken when it comes to touching the registry...but that seems like the most direct approach to fix it. Is there another way to get Vegas to update it's Cache to fix this? Oh yeah THANKS for the input!

Its easy, do this:

1. Start menu run function (type "regedit" here and press enter
2. In regedit using the tree control on the left pane (the folders with the pluses next to them)
3. Expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" branch by clicking on the plus to the left.
4. Continue expanding branches until you get to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Media Software\Vegas\5.0\DXCache

5. Highlite the DXCache folder and press delete on the keyboard.
6. Agree to the msg "are you sure you want to delete this key and its sub keys?"
7. Re-run Vegas
This will cause vegas to "grovel" and reaquire all DirectX plugins.
It will then recreate a new DXCache folder for all the plugs it found.
