I'm also seeing a difference in playback speed in the render tests. I can play the RenderTest-2010 back at full frame rate using Best(Half) while on my old Quad Core, Best(Half) would only yield 12 - 15fps.

You would see even better times if you had a GTX580 GPU for example... but who would turn their nose at a 600 to 800% improvement. ;-)

If you decide to add a RAID, do buy a card. But that's where the WS motherboard shows its strength over the other models. It is built for people who want to do that kind of stuff. Just today, ASUS released a BIOS upgrade just to improve system stability.

I like that kind of support.

So, was the CyberPower quality all it's reputed to be?

I've been using my "enhanced" Zeus Thunder 3000 for about a month.
I am loving it. Don't have the numbers, but I'm whipping through some layered HD After Effects projects like they were soft butter. Love being able to move the unified camera around in almost real time in compositions with heavy doses of effects.

As far as CyberPower quality, I've had a great experience, so far. One LED that came with the case, was not hooked up and the temp sensor leads were just dangling, but other than that, everything is very tight. I filled up the two hot swap slots with options but didn't receive the trays with the shipment. Made a call and they shipped separately. After all I read about communication, things went surprisingly well. One thing...don't believe them when it comes to shipping dates until you see that it's shipped. You'll be hard pressed to find a better assembly of parts for the price anywhere...and I definitely tried. Overall, the quality seems to be very good.

Specs:
- 3930K (OC'd 30% - 4.2GHz)
- ASUS P9X79 MB
- CyberPower Xtreme Hydro Liquid Cooling Kit 360MM w/ Triple Fan
- 32GB DDR3 RAM (8 ea 4GB, 1600MHz, Corsair XMS3 w/spreaders)
- A 240GB Intel 520 SSD for OS and programs
- 2 ea 2TB Seagate 7200rpm
- 1 ea 120GB OCZ Agility 3 SSD for scratch files, etc
- 1,000w PS Raidmax
- EVGA Superclocked GTX 670 (2GB)
- Cooler Master HAF-X Full Tower Case
- Pioneer BR burner
- Win 7 Pro
- Internal card reader
- Aerocool 2000 Temp Monitor and Fan Control

And you said this configuration was about $1600?

No, that was one of the other guys that built their own.
This one was about $2,800

Thanks.

No problem.
Another thing. If you're interested in CyberPower, keep checking every couple of weeks. They have sales all the time on various things. I caught mine when the Zeus 3000 was about $180 off of the normal base package.

I am testing a GTX 680 atm, instead of my ATI V4900 firepro that i bought due to ATI's reccomendation (totally useless for rendering, but great for the editing job)

The tests shows a 3-4 times renderspeed improvement, so im happy atm.

"3-4 times renderspeed improvement"

Nice - but is this also valid for "normal" rendering?
I mean like rendering input from your cameras to your delivery format and with just none or a little FX?
- or is the 3-4 times improvement only valid for (IMO) extreme number-crunching rendering like the Rendertests in this forum.

Guys

I'm also very interested in upgrading to a similar spec machine from a Q6600 overclocked to 3 GHZ

Does anyone from the UK know a good supplier who can sell a system such as this which is already custom built with motherboards / memory / processor all configured. I'd rather not purchase all components and fit myself.

Thanks

Matt

It's normal render. One short slide title, and 4 mins of FullHD
