Upsampling all Media to HDV .. i need ur Help

MohammeD T wrote on 10/11/2006, 6:40 PM
am currently reading DSE HDV book, and i got to the upsample section were he states that there are some decks that will do this(upsample DV to HDV) but they are highly priced, a search returned some 40K and 70K solutions, well for all the Hi8's and DV's I'v got, what's my best shot?

i really dont want to spend all my time editing those and then some technology pops-up somewhere forcing me to Re-Edit the whole thing once again, u know color correction,Cropping, project properties and almost the whole editing process is diffrent in HDV, so please guide me here, am really thinking of a future proof solution.

your advice much appreciated, thank you

You can do this with the JVC BR 50, but it is *specifically* designed to do this with media from the Panasonic DVX 100 camcorder series.
However, Vegas does a nearly identical job, it's just not real-time. There are also hardware boxes from Miranda, Snell/Wilcox, and other companies that can upscale your media. They're not cheap.
None of them are perfect. On the cheap side, Magic Bullet "Instant HD" does the best job for the buck, IMO.

Remember that uprezzing algorythms work best on progressive scan material. If you (like me) simply want to uprez your current SD 60i material, you'll find little if any difference between the uprezzing options.

I would say... Throw your Video on the timeline and Render/Uprez over night.

Unfortunatly .. Magic Bullet "Instant HD" does not support Vegas, though it is what i was looking for, ill be mixing Hi8 + DV and HDV footage in my projects, so my only option is Render as HDV and live with the results.

thanks guys

Spot,

when you say the JVC BR 50, are you talking about the JVC BRHD50U?

I guess that's the full model#. heck, I can't remember all those numbers.
Seriously, that's it. Broadcast Recording High Definition 50 United States. :-)
BR50 comes off the tongue better.

Yah, I know how it is. Somedays all the model number just become one big pile of mush in my head. Thanks Spot.

Cineform says HD Connect does,

"Upscaling/Downscaling to/from standard HD/SD resolutions, plus deinterlacing, slow motion, and pulldown removal."

Has anyone tried upscaling and/or deinterlacing DV with it?

Mark
