used Vegas 5 question

Salamander wrote on 10/2/2007, 4:43 PM
I have Vegas 5 and DVDA 2 - CDs and manuals. If I sell these on Ebay, can someone buying them from me turn around and use the serial number to get the $149.99 upgrade price for Vegas 8 (I used the Vegas 5 serial numbers when I upgraded to Vegas 6, and plan on using the Vegas 6 serial number to upgrade to Vegas 8). I don't want to mislead anyone if that is not an option.

no, they can't. You also need to contact sony with your name/registered e-mail for that software & SN & the new owners name/registering e-mail. There's an option for that in the form mail.

I'd say that in the auction too.

So I am clear on this, are you saying there is not any way for them to get the upgrade price? Or are you saying that they can get it if I contact sony with my name & registered email and give them the new owners name and email?

Sony will allow you to sell or give a copy of a previous version of Vegas to someone and will issue a license to them to use it legally. You're required to remove the version that you sell or give away from your computer(s).

They will not permit new owner to use it to obtain a discounted update price on subsequent versions. Only original purchasers of a new full version are eligible for the discount price on upgrades.

Got it. Thanks!

Hmmm... This selling-the-old-one situation has tickled my brain to ask some related Qs.

--- What do most of you do with older versions? Keep them installed or sell or give away in one way or another?

Beyond a certain time such as converting projects, etc. it seems like one would be simply cluttering up one's system with an never-again-used app.

Now, let's say I sell my 6 since I have 8. A couple of years down the road, I decide to get 10 or whatever it will be called then.

Your version 8 license is a separate license from your version 6 license. You wouldn't use it to upgrade to version 10 anyway, since you've already used it to upgrade to version 8.

The point is that each license can be used to obtain one upgrade at a discount price. A license obtained at an upgrade discount price is still a license and can be used to obtain the next upgrade discount.

So...
I hear you talking about upgrade discount price.
If I give 4 to someone can they upgrade at the full upgrade price?

Thanks

As long as you didn't use it for any upgrades whatsoever, they should be able to upgrade to Vegas 8 at the current special price (until Oct. 31) of $134.95 (download) or $149.95 (packaged).
A quick email/phone call to Customer Service to clarify this would probably be a good idea.
