Using a ZR-40 DV to view Vegas on TV

I have a Canon ZR-40. I have used it to capture VHS into Vegas but I'm wondering how to set it up so I can get a video preview off the Vegas timeline thru the ZR-40 and into my TV. I got the ZR-40 connected via Firewire and the av connector hooked up to the TV. I'm not getting anything. Can the ZR-40 do this? Ideas?

Thanks

I use a ZR40 at home for previews to an NTSC monitor. You're connections sound right. Make sure the switch on the ZR40 is pointed to PLAY(VCR); sometimes you have to turn the camera off and on after connecting to firewire for the computer to recognize it. Make sure you activate the external preview toggle on vegas (the little TV icon above the preview window bottom right). Then pick your quality (best-full if editing straight DV video will give you a full quality preview) and you're ready to go.

Besides all that you still need to tell Vegas you have a firewire device.

Options/Preferences/Video Device

Change from the default none to to line that shows compliant IEEE 1394 (firewire)

If you still can't get it to work, first rule out its the camera. Connect the output to your TV, then set the camera to play and what you normally see in the viewfinder when first turning on the camera you should also see on your monitor.

So do I set the AV -> DV Out to on or off? I'm betting off.

Is your camera DV in able? A lot of the PAL versions of various DV cam does not have DV In enabled (I think this has to do with custom duties). On some of these DV In can be enabled through a gadget.

THis ZR-40 is NTSC. I got it to work. I turned off AV>DV Output on the AR-40 and I rechecked the recompress option in Video device in Vegas. Turned off and on the ZR and bam-O it works! Thanks guys.
