I just got VF2.0 over the weekend and was messing around with it. I was able to capture video threw my ATI AIW, but the audio didn't seem to make it. When using this type of hardware do I need to capture the audio seperatly and sync them up later? Or do I have something screwed up?
It's most likely the ATI card that is at fault. I've tried using it many
times and i've always gotten the Audio out of sync or at the wrong
speed. I've had the same problems with several different capture
programs. The card just doesn't seem capable of capturing properly.
Your best option is the Sony DVMC-DA2. It converts NTSC analog
audio & video into a DV signal and vice versa, letting you capture and
play back with a firewire port. The converter, a firewire card, and a cable
will probably run you close to $400, but it's definately worth it.
So its not just me. It should be getting the audio by default? I though maybe I didn't set something up right. If I have to plunk down 400 to get it working, would you think I would be better off moving to a DV camcorder?
That would be the ideal way to go, and today's digital camcorders are
amazingly good compared to the analog models even from a couple of
years ago. If you decide to go this way, look for one that has analog A/V
inputs on it, and you'll be able to use it to convert your old analog
videos to DV for capturing through firewire without needing the Sony
converter box.
Dan, if you are getting NO audio, then it is just a setup problem. Check your mixer settings.
Double click the little speaker icon on the right of your taskbar. Then click "Options" and select "Properties". Click on "Recording" and make sure the "line-in" box is checked. Click OK and you will see the recording volume controls. Make sure the "Select" checkbox is checked for the line-in and set at a suitable volume. These instructions are for Win2K. In Win98, I think the "Select" checkbox is called something else.
I can't wait to get home and try that out. Write now I just wanted to play around abit, and wasn't looking forward to spending 400 buck just to muck about
