Using Bezier Mask seems to alter clip's aspect ratio

Fresh wrote on 4/1/2019, 1:50 PM

On a black and white movie, I'm using a bezier mask to colorize one section of a shirt.
Please look carefully at the image, specifically at his hand, notice how the mask alters the aspect ratio of the video. (Sony Vegas Pro 16, build 361)

This is causing an issue for me, as the clips don't properly align in certain frames.

Can anyone explain why the bezier mask alters the video clip's aspect ratio and how i can fix it?

Thank in advance.

@Fresh - Can you explain a bit more? Can we have a ScreenGrab of your TimeLine?

Thanks Grazie, here's a screenshot of the video in question. If i slide the 'blend' option on the Bezier masking option from left to right (0% - 100%), i can clearly see how the mask is distorting the aspect ratio, or at least moving the image significantly. In this screenshot, i've moved the blend towards the center so you can see how using the Bezier mask causes the clip to loose it's original aspect ratio.

I don't understand what could be causing that. Thanks for any assistance or ideas.

Not to hijack but if it anyone can explain how using this mask and curve is different from the regular mask in pro. It seems easier to create the shape but I cant get it to work the same way if I'm using curve.

To me it doesn't seem to be an apect ratio issue but it rather looks like as if the masked area shows a different frame than the rest of the preview window. And I see the project frame rate is out of usual video standards.

Is the frame rate of your source footage a variable frame rate?

I tried to duplicate this using two Bezier Masks and motion track .. could not .. but maybe I don't understand the problem.

@Fresh - Looking very closely at your Timeline it appears you have:

1] An individual Event sitting “on” or Cut into another Event. Yes/no?

2] Additionally, you've got Track Motion Keyframes which I can’t tell how how and when they’re having an effect.

IMHO, you've got a highly complex structure going on. What you’ve presented in your ScreenGrab although getting us some way further in assisting you, is only telling us some of the workflow-outcome.

I think it is time for you to upload the VEG. From what you’ve kindly submitted isn’t assisting me.

BTW, I really like your “approach”. 😉

Guys thanks for trying. I think it's just a fluke as this doesn't reproduce in other clips. I've worked around it now by removing the misbehaved clip, but thanks for trying.
