Using Boris REDs transition with Vegas

As I continue to work through several issues with Vegas 8, another problem has managed to confuse me.

When I'm inside Vegas and I want to apply a Boris RED transition to two media clips, after I drop the Boris plugin on the transition, it opens the RED engine as it should, but my media clips are not inside the RED composition window. All I have is a blank RED project. My two media clips should be on the time line so I can apply the desired transition effect.

Anyone here using RED and Vegas together and making transitions or Video FX using RED?

Thanks,
GreenMartian

You need to check the manual or in this case the Help files included with RED. There is a section under Quick Start called Using Boris Red In Host Applications with a section about Vegas. There are also some notes about Vegas in the Boris Red 4.0.3 Release Notes under Host Application Notes

One of the biggest things is that you need to make sure your Timeline Playhead is parked over your RED Transition or clip that houses your RED FX.

For some reason RED will only load the 1 frame into its UI. You will NOT be able to see your FX play in RED. You will have to APPLY then go back to Vegas to see it.

Red will only show the one frame because that is all that Vegas ever supplies to any sort of plugin. I hope future versions of Vegas will correct this short-coming.
