Using Mini DVDC-252 Panosonic Camcorder Input

Ok folks, here is a slightly off topic question, yet valid IMHO. I have a brand spanking new DVDC-252 Panasonic Palm Camcorder and it has a Firewire port. I was a Dell VW / Dazzle sucker who got the MGI movie bundle(need I say more). I also have firewire on my card. Now the question is.....

Can I run my camcorder into the breakout box or the 1394 card itself? Panasonic told me I have to BUY justwedit, or Pinnacle! This blows, as I already bought sonic foundry. I hate to buy yet another video package. I thought firewire was UNIVERSAL? can anyone shed some opinions on this firewire compatibility issue??? I have to buy the firewire cable yet ($30)...I hope the panasonic cust rep is wrong on this. LMK if any of you have done a panasonic DVDC 252 hookup into a non justedit/pinnacle software package..... the_ripper

I don't have the camcorder you do, but you *should* be able to make a connection from the Panasonic directly to the 1394 card (as long as it is OHCI compliant), and bag the breakout box altogether. Buy the firewire cable, and give it a shot. Like you, I'm a VW convert, (sans the Dazzle breakout box fiasco) and enjoying every minute of using this great SF program.

I have exactly the same thing you do. You will be able to use it just fine. The firewire port is standard. It's the analog part that only seems to be compatible with VW4.
