Using MXF video on another computer

I would like to be able to use the Sony MXF file on another computer that does not have Vegas installed. Is there a codec to download that would allow this? This other computer has a Digital Rapids StreamZ hardware encoder but does not recognize the Sony MXF format.

Thanks for any suggestions.

edit: I found some free software called Amerfin MXF Desktop that supposedly makes your XP or 2000 computer MXF aware. Is that going to work?

Dave T2,

I'm no expert, I use MXF files often but end up playing them with Sony's XDCAM Viewer:

Even the latest version of VLC player can't play the audio in my MXF files at the correct speed.

Recall that MXF describes a wrapper type or container...it does not describe a decoder or file type.

videoITguy,

I understand that. The Sony MXF files apparently are not using a common codec. Any ideas on if that codec is available to load on other computers?

Thanks

The Sony 35mbps MXF files are typically MPEG2 files with PCM audio wrapped in an MXF container. The 50mbps MXF files are MPEG2 4:2:2.

thanks John, maybe I have been using the wrong template.

Watch out for trying to convert it to mp4 in Handbrake. It will only do one of the stereo sides.

VLC uses its own decoders, so installing other decoders won't help it. If it doesn't play then there is nothing you can do about it (to quote VLC).
