I am new to Vegas and I have been trying to set up a slide show using scanned photos however I cannot get a photo in a tif format to import into Vegas. I have used jpeg format put the quality is not very good. any suggestions?
png is probably the best format to import into Vegas. Do you have a batch convert utility in your photo-editing program that can convert a folder of tifs to png? (I use Ulead PhotoImpact 8).
Make sure the pixel resolution of the picture is close to the dimensions: 655x480 72dpi. If you are going to zoom, pan, or crop the picture ala Ken Burns, make sure you have some extra resolution. I usually resample pics to around 1100 x whatever. That usually gives you some resolution to work with and doesn't burden the rendering with a whole lot of resampling.
Also, make sure you have your project rendering set on "best."
And, of course, make sure you start with a good picture.
