What do you mean by "mixing surround?" Those three outputs are stereo pairs, but the signal comes out from the card to your powered speakers, not the other direction. The card has some inputs, too; a mic and line-in.

When you put a couple of audio tracks on the timeline, you can go into the properties menu under File and tell Vegas you have a 5.1 project. Then each track will have a 2D slider and you can assign each track to a particular speaker. Is this what you meant?

Actually, I am referring to using the 3 stereo setups to monitor the mix. I would be using loops to create it in Vegas or Acid.

They're not referred to as stereo pairs, even though that's more or less what they look like. Yes, you can use this card to mix surround. If you're doing mixes for $$, I highly recommend you get a 'real' sound card that will have full bandwidth, no compression on the in/outputs, and no noise. However, those cost $$.
Anyway, you can do minimal mixes in surround even with one of these consumer cards.

I use the sb audigy to mix surround video projects, works great! not sure if the asio driver is used for the surround channels though...

I use(d) my intergrated SoundMax (on MB) sound card to do some surround mixes. But, I said use(d) because I accudently mesed up my left mic input/ rear left out one day so i'm one channel short.

It's ok until I get a better card. Is it possible to have 2 serate sound cards in your comp, anyone know? I use my comp for game & editing, and plan on getting a nice SB card eventuatly, but also want a nice audio card for capture/editing (24-bit, 96khz, etc etc etc....)

Yes, I used to have a Turtle Beach Quadzilla and my Mia in my PC. I was able to switch back and forth.
I say "used to" because I switched to XP and the Quadzilla is no longer supported with this OS. :(
