Using the JKL keys shuts Vegas down!

Okay, for those of you still working in Vegas 4...

I've noticed that Vegas has suddenly become very tender about how I use the JKL keys. For example, if I hit L, Vegas plays at 1x speed. If I hit L again, sometimes it will increase the playback speed, but sometimes the entire Vegas window will simply disappear--the program completely shuts down.

Other times I will get an error message such as "An exception has occured."

I haven't gotten the chance to work in Vegas 5 yet, so don't know if the trait carries over there. I have done the "repair" option in the Add/remove applet.

Any thoughts?

After the preceeding post, I decided to take my own advice and did a search on this board. I came across the post by Johnmeyer a few months back about having a similar effect after changing the "Audio Device" from "Microsoft Sound Mapper" to "Direct Surround Sound Mapper."

Sure enough, if I went back to the M/S mapper, the issue disappeared. So now the question is, how do I get a stable JKL operation when I'm doing a surround project (thus needing the Direct Surround mapper)? Is this something that is fixed in Vegas5?

Use ASIO drivers. If you don't currently have this option, download ASIO4ALL

http://michael.tippach.bei.t-online.de/asio4all/

and this will give you ASIO drivers for any soundcard out there.
