Using the trimmer?

Don't use it that much but when I do I have one frustration with it.
I spool through the tape, find a clip, mark in/out and add to the T/L.
Obviously then I want to play from the end of what I just selected, why when I hit Play in the trimmer window does the play head go to the start of the selection I just selected, I'm hard pressed to see the logic of this.

Yes, this frustrates me as well.

My work around is to memorise or note the time code of the spot where I pressed O and to go back to this point at the start of the next visit to the Trimmer. It's accurate but cumbersome.

You might press cursor-left or cursor-right before playbacking which moves the cursor one or few frames to the side but this would make playback start close to end position.

Thanks guys.
At least I now know I hadn't missed something. I was kind of hoping with the attention given to the timmer in V8 and V9 that the basic functionality would be well, more functional.
Thankfully I don't do much elbow editing so not a big issue for me.

Could you program a macro to go to the end of the event and play?

What it'd needs is just disabling the Trimmer's Loop Region. The cursor is already at its end. But starting playback makes the cursor jump back to the beginning of the active Loop Region. Using cursor-right/cursor-left disables the Loop-Region.

I've always had issues with the Trimmer's functionality too.
I've resorted to using Markers to help me remember certain points in the Trimmer.

I feel that there should be Buttons/Options for:
- Set In
- Set Out
- Clear In
- Clear Out
- GoTo In
- GoTo Out
- Play In to Out
- Insert
- Overlay

These are just a few of the tools I've come to expect in an NLE that uses Source/Program (Trimmer/Preview) windows.
When they are NOT present my edit tends to be a lot slower but I don't think it matters to the editor that has not become accustomed to seeing the aforementioned Buttons/Options because they will use what's given and create a workflow around it.

One of Vegas' big strengths is that it is not like the other guys in many regards... but it is also one of it's biggest weaknesses.
