Using the trimmer seems to still be too risky to be useful

I'd really like to use the trimmer more but I've found that even though VP has gotten more stable with the newer VP19 updates, using the trimmer is just too risky. I literally have to Ctrl-S every time I add a new clip to the timeline or risk losing the last several edits.

My suspicion is that the trimmer is particularly sensitive to files encoded with h.264/5 and triggers the thread hangs that the VP group have largely resolved in the main timeline.

I'm converting my current project to all prores to test that theory.

Anyone else have a similar experience and have difficulty using the trimmer for similar reasons?
