Just a thought. Using transition envelope as an fx between the same clip will give you the bonus of getting it to measures or beats

This might get the point across better = its one long transition
Using two media gen tracks check board set to 3 x 3 tracks as masks and use Vegas 3d blinds transition set to 3 one left – right one up – down
Add transition envelope and do your thing..
