Using Video FX

How come when I try to use a FX it tries to auto place it. I wanted it to blur in a certin point, so I had it set to none until the point then I made the blur. Then I noticed it gradulely blured the hole movie. I had to go frame by frame and set to none every time. Is there a way to turn off the auto set?

When you place your fx make sure sync-cursor is pressed (left-most icon below key-frame box). Select the first keyframe, set to none, 0, whatever. Then find the place in the timeline where you want the blur to start. Click on something in the fx box, maybe nudge something slightly and a new keyframe will appear. Now set a new key-frame a little later and create the blur effect. When you want it to disappear copy the first keyframe and put it after the blur effect.
