Utilize Pop-Up (Disc) Menu?

Is there a way in DVD Architect 6 Pro authoring to utilize the Pop-Up (Disc) menu found on most DVD and Blu-ray remote controls? Even when I am several levels deep (into chapter menus) on my Blu-ray project and I have everything authored to use the most recent menu (both in End Action AND Remote Buttons), pressing the Pop-Up (Disc) menu does NOTHING and pressing the Top Menu button of course sends me back to the MAIN menu (where I have links for Play All and Chapters. I REALLY want to go back to the PREVIOUS menu (where the current segment was launched from using a Chapters Menu link) when I press one of these menu buttons, but no luck. Am I doing something wrong, or is this just the nature of the beast? Thanks in advance.

If you are talking about commercial Blu-ray disc menus that can be called up on the screen at will - that is done with special licensed Java code - which you do NOT have access to in burning software such as DVDAPro by SCS or even Encore by Adobe.

On the other hand with DVDAPro you can mimick an on-screen menu approach by using buttons over video feature - look it up in help manual. This will work in both traditional DVD and Blu-ray disc production.

In order to do the mimic you need to plan carefully a video layout preparation in your video render step in VegasPro NLE. Then in DVDAPro - you setup the button preparation. It can be a lot of fun, can be very helpful to disc navigation - but attempting to do it is NOT for the faint of heart.

After spending some time combing through the DVD Architect Pro 6 manual, I found this little gem near the top of page 130:

"Note: The Menu button is not supported for Blu-ray Disc projects."

End of story.

Thanks for bringing this to my and the attention of all of our colleagues who may have had the same concerns.

does not matter - as I just stated earlier there are other methods you can deploy.

The main reason I use TMPGEnc Authoring Works for Blu-ray is because it DOES have pop-up menu options. DVDA has never had it...and most likely never will.

I would like to know the effect you are getting by using TMPG to produce on-screen buttons for menu - very likely creates the same code that I just explained above that DVDAPro has always been available to do.

Compare with a commerical authored production where you can call up a menu of many different parameters during normal play mode- that is authored with javascript code - sorry but TMPG is not licensed to use Java - nor is any other low-cost one-off authoring system.

I'm not using any "effect". Check out their website....pop-up menus have been available in TAW for a long time now. Who cares whether they use "Java" or not.....it works.

With all due respect, I understand your web pointer - but here's the problem - as with TMPG in general this is a way of creating things in wizards with very limited graphics control - hence this is what we call an "effect". It does not compare at all with commercial authored projects that utilize Java.

What it does compare with is the same ability that has always been included in DVDAPro. ON-screen buttoning. What TMPG adds to this is the wizardry to get there faster and places a small amount of control script in the authoring to get a link with the remote control button. What it lacks and I consider it seriously is from the wizardry system you lose some finesse in graphics control design. This is always a cost of wizards. You may like them - but I have found over the years that every thing I have attempted by wizardy is less than what I can achieve in full-control. DVDAPro offers full control and I am only sorry that I do not know the small amount of script to link a remote control feature for hardware. There are very few documentations about for script control and there should be lots more to get full use of DVDAPro.

There is full control of custom menus etc in TMPGEnc if you want it. I actually don't like it as much as DVDA - It's tedious by comparison. BUT.... when a client pushes their 'pop-up' menu button on their remote they get a pop-up menu. I have enough control over the graphics to keep me (and the client) happy.
