V V 3 & SF6 lockups at splashscreen after reinstallation

CROSS POST from SoundForge Forum: http://www.sonicfoundry.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=117082&Replies=1&Page=1

Problem when VV or SF6 is reinstalled. IT FREEZES on the splashscreen. Uninst/Reinst didn't help.

Yep. I'm suffering the same thing. I would venture to say it has something to do with Win2k SP3. I hope the SF techs can look into this. This is not just a fatal error, its a SYSTEM FREEZE. Yes mouse moves, but nothing else responds. I even tried the hotkeys for shutting down, which can work in situations when it just a graphics image freeze, No dice.

This one requires pulling the plug. Which, I'm glad to say, it not a very common thing with Win2k (Win98 - diff story). I will try uninstalling the SP3 to see if it is a reversable issue, or not.

BTW, To the smart person who commented earlier on making URLs into links. What's the trick. I didn't see it in any of the forum faqs. I tried turning the url into a link using the standard ... doesn't work.

Hi Jeffy,

Sorry, can't help ya on the freeze...

The link I can help tho, I will substitute square brackets for the greater-than and less-than signs:

[a href="http://www.sonicfoundry.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=117082&Replies=1&Page=1" target="_blank"]http://www.sonicfoundry.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=117082&Replies=1&Page=1[/a]

target="_blank" in the tag will open the link in a new window...

make sure you close the link with[/a]...

you might copy the above example and change the brackets to greater&lesser signs, it should look like this:

HTH, and good luck with the freeze...

This sounds like it could be a problem with a DirectX audio plug-in. What (non SF) plug-ins do you have?

SonicEPM,

You are correct. I haven't yet tried it, but the possible cause was posted on the crosspost. ATI's latest Catalyst driver for the ATI RAdeon.

DO NOT INSTALL IT.

No wonder it's own utility kept saying theyre was a problem with directX even though I tried reinstalling Directx8.1 and no dice. I will try doing back a version.
Shame on ATI. They were on a roll. DAMN.

Yah. I'm on a Radeon 8500/128mb and the Cat's (2.2) are a big problem. Revert to your 2.1 Cat's and things will go swimmingly.
