v13 seems to have a hard time with XAVC-S

Hi all,

So I'm testing my new Sony a7S - what an incredible camera!
I'm currently recording at 25p in XAVC-S 50mbs. With the preview set to best/full, pans are slightly stuttering, with no FX or anything else going on.
So I was wondering if that codec, being dense as it is with its high bitrate, is really that hard on V13 or if something else is going on that i'm missing. Yes project properties and all that are adjusted. Any thoughts?

pans @ 25p are going to stutter...

Pans at that frame-rate are tough to do without looking like it has tourettes. The key is to go very slow, unless you have some sort of action to follow to distract you from the stutters.

If it truly is Vegas not being able to handle it, you can try making proxies of your footage for editing.

Try filming at 50P and see if you still get the stutter.

25p in 1080 or 4k (if you have the external recorder)? 25p will have a slight stutter due to the frame rate, 4k might stutter as the preview can't keep up.

This is an amazing camera - low light ability is bonkers..... the A7rii is very soon out but I'm holding out to see if there is an updated A7sii that has in body image stabilisation......

Thanks to you all,
although I live in PAL kand, I'll definiitely try and shoot at 30p from now on, as it really seems to have only benefits.
Yes, the A7s mk2..well it seems it's gonna be around next year or so, as they just released the 7R mk2 with internal 4k and , so it seems, finally a lossless RAW for stills. I hope they will give us that one at least in a future update for the 7S.
