Generally let's confine THE comparison to these two versions:

VegasPro9 32bit platform Version 9.0e
VegasPro13 64bit platform Version Build 373

Comparing apples to oranges... what do you think?

In spite of using GPU acceleration since V 10 with either a GT 470 or a Quadra K4000

Neither of the two GPUs are powerful enough to provide proper acceleration. Try a R9 290/290X and you will see the difference. Full GPU acceleration is only available since VP11, VP10 accelerated only one codec on rendering, no timeline acceleration.

Proud owner of Sony Vegas Pro 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 & 13 and now Magix VP15&16.

V9 came in 64 and 32 bit versions. I will try a newer Graphics card as suggested.

"Comparing apples to oranges... what do you think?"

That doesn't alter the fact that Strato still sees V9 going faster than V13.
It would seem that his question then is, why use 13 instead of 9?
Enerjex wrote on 5/30/2015, 9:21 PM
Regardless of his graphics card VP 13 should have at least as good playback as 9 with GPU off in 13. I'd actually expect it to be better as I'd hope there would be cpu usage optimisations over 5 generations of a product!

Well, the question is what is better between the comparison versions. You win some and lose some.
Strato wrote on 5/31/2015, 12:10 PM
I just turned off the graphic acceleration and V13 and V9 seem to play the same. It seems with acceleration, things slow down with both graphic cards, latest driver,
set to performance mode in NVIDIA'S control panel and inside the preferences.
Either I am missing a setting or maybe the cards are not good enough. Thanks for all the sugestions.

Right-on point sir.

Just for completion, I had an older AMD HD Radeon 5770 and just tried it, well it definitely works with V13 and plays the files at regular speed, compared to the Nvidias.
