V19 FX automation / event issue

Mindmatter wrote on 2/15/2022, 1:21 PM

Hi all

I've been seeing this repeatedly now in V19. The keyframes for an FX automation do not match the event position or length. I've even seen events where the starting point on the automation key frame timeline was way beyond / before the actual event position.
Please see the screenshot, where the cursor is at the first frame of the event but the keyframe timeline exceeds it to the left. Putting the cursor on zero actally reaches into the preceeding event.
Also, in this QFHD project, typing in text into the text box takes ages, the letters lag and appear only seconds after the typing.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

@Mindmatter Hi, does the typing lag if you solo that track, or mute the others,?

Mindmatter wrote on 2/15/2022, 2:14 PM

Hi Gid

that doesn't change anything.

@Mindmatter Sorry warning - this is no help to you at all,

I've just been playing with this, your pc isn't a million miles different to mine, I've got a bit more GB's but you have faster RAM 😒 so i tried to copy what i could see on your media generators text pic,

I couldn't recreate & haven't seen the cursor not sit at the start of the timeline before 🤷‍♂️, & I don't have half the stuff on the timeline as you, so i added just 2 effects to an mp4 4k AVC, a film effect which is just a bit or colorization & a glow, those 2 effects really slowed things down, I put a title on top that & i animated it a bit, it plays at Draft (Auto) 1.6fps 😒 but the typing in the box is still pretty quick even when playing,

Just out of curiosity i duplicated the mp4 tracks 5 times, added a few more titles, playback went down to 0.5fps 😂 but i could still type in the txt box, sorry.

@Mindmatter - I just need to be sure what it is you're asking.

Are you saying my Point 1 and Point 2 should be the same?

Former user wrote on 2/17/2022, 6:38 AM

@Grazie Hi, i think that's what he's saying, but they should be shouldn't they?

Grazie wrote on 2/17/2022, 7:49 AM

@Former user - Have a real close look at what or where those Controls are controlling. 😉

@Former user - Time’s up! 1 is on the MAIN Timeline, and 2 is on the EVENT Timeline.

Former user wrote on 2/17/2022, 8:21 AM

@Grazie not sure 🧐🤷‍♂️😂 you're going to have to tell me 🙃

but if i put text on the timeline, drag the length of the text backwards that messes with start position, it's indicated by the little arrow at the top of the event, just above the T of Text, but i see no arrow on the OP pic

PS,  'Time’s up! 1 is on the MAIN Timeline, and 2 is on the EVENT Timeline.' you posted this while i was typing this comment above,

Hey Grazie

sorry for the late reply.

Well yes you are right, butr that is not how it should be, unless they made that a new feature. At least I've never seen that before, and it makes no sense at that. As long as I can remember, the keyframe timeline is related to the event length, not the project timeline, unless it's a track motion keyframe. How else could you set precise keyframes for automation inside an event?

If you look closely, the zero / behginning is not the global timeline zero, the event is at around 16 seconds.

Something is just very off here.

This is how it normally works - zero on keyframe timeline is zero of event:

sorry for the late reply.

@Mindmatter - No worries!

Well yes you are right, , unless they made that a new feature. At least I've never seen that before, and it makes no sense at that.

@Mindmatter - "butr that is not how it should be . . " and what we've got are miles apart.

As long as I can remember, the keyframe timeline is related to the event length, not the project timeline,

@Mindmatter - Correct!

unless it's a track motion keyframe. How else could you set precise keyframes for automation inside an event?

@Mindmatter - Ah, now we have the convergence of logic.

Something is just very off here.

This is how it normally works - zero on keyframe timeline is zero of event:

@Mindmatter - No. Your Timeline Cursor is at 1 minute, but your Event Timeline Cursor is at ZERO. It has always been this way. You think differently. Why? I'm struggling to confront your understanding. I wish I could do better.

Mindmatter wrote on 2/22/2022, 9:10 AM

Ok let's try this.

compare both pics. Both have the cursor on the exact 1st frame / start of the event.
In he first, the cursor is where it should be - at zero of the event.

In the second, the cursor is off, but it's the exact same situation.

Look at the first left keyframe in the 1st oic. It's actually OUTSIDE the event timeline scale.

both ( should ) have nothing to do with the actualy project timeline, as the scale refers solely to the length of / inside the event.

@Mindmatter

Please include the full screenshot so people can see all the timeline characteristics.

I think I can reproduce your complaint by selecting Pan/Crop for the wrong event, but I can't know for sure.

(@john_dennis - keep going… 😉)

Mindmatter wrote on 2/24/2022, 9:48 AM

Ok I'll try again...:

please look at the 1st pic. The timeline cursor is at the BEGINNING ( absolute first ever frame) of the event, as is the actual keyframe.

BUT: the timeline cursor inside the T&T event panel is NOT, but it should be.

We do agree that the timeline zero inside the event equals the time logic of the EVENT, not the project timeline, right?

So: zero on THAT timeline is zero / the absolute start of the EVENT, OK? That particular event is 8 seconds long, as is the timeline I see the keyframes on. See pic2.

NOW watch what happens when I set the timeline cursor of the event to its zero: the project cursor leaves the event length and goes in front of the event. See pic 3.

That ...makes absolutely no sense, I haven't seen that in 10 years of Vegas and only saw it in V19 first.

@Mindmatter - I can not repro your issue. I've confirmed in VP18 and it's working correctly. Try this, try unchecking and then rechecking the Sync Cursor to Media Timeline:

Hopefully, that shakes loose the issue for you.

Mindmatter wrote on 2/24/2022, 1:25 PM

Gracias Grazie, but that unfortunately didn't help. Seems to be a V19 thing only though.

Not convinced, could possibly be your System PLUS VP19. I don’t see or hear others having your issue. As I said, the Sync thing is working fine here.

gary-rebholz wrote on 3/1/2022, 3:52 PM

@Mindmatter, What you are seeing is actually intended behavior for Generated media. When you edit the parameters of generated media, the animation timeline you see is the media's timeline as dictated by the media length, not the event length.

Former user wrote on 3/1/2022, 4:15 PM

but if i put text on the timeline, drag the length of the text backwards that messes with start position, it's indicated by the little arrow at the top of the event, just above the T of Text, but i see no arrow on the OP pic

So i was correct, although it looks like @Mindmatter has shrunk the length of the event not stretched it as i had done in my previous comment, so there is no little arrow on the top of the event 😉

Grazie wrote on 3/2/2022, 12:41 AM

OK, Guys, the length of the Event HAS been changed and it now has to be reset/updated for VP to do the math:

Select the Event and one click on the Set Event Length and the “Notch” will disappear. Then all the other other issues will disappear. VP is working well for you @Mindmatter 😉.

@Grazie Select the Event and one click on the Set Event Length and the “Notch” will disappear. Then all the other other issues will disappear.

I thought so too, but it appears that the OP shortened his event from the start, which doesn't show anything to indicate that. In this case, matching event length doesn't resolve his issue. Although it does show a loop point where the end of the event should be.Try it.

I can repro the issue of @Mindmatter when I shorten the text event from the left side on the timeline and I just see that's the same @Jack S described.
