V20 bug - split stereo to mono puts split track on top of other track

Mindmatter wrote on 5/23/2023, 10:28 AM

all

so there are 2 stereo tracks from 2 cam tracks.

Then I split the track underneath, and one of the two resulting mono tracks is being put on top of one of the first tracks from the other cam.

V19 doesn't have that bug.

Will plan on testing, but first a thank you as I did not know you could do this. (I have been duplicating clips and then selecting only the right and left channel to split). Looks like I'll have to display a toolbar at top to do this.

What is the name of the button you clicked up top to copy/split the track into two mono tracks? I can't find it to add to top.

Here's a way to do this:

@wjauch, try going to Tools - Scripting - Stereo to Mono

It looks like that script is trying to be "smart" and not add unneeded tracks but it's picking up the same destination track even though the original events are on different tracks. As far as I can tell, this script has not changed in many versions of VEGAS.

Thank you. I tried this and it worked (did move audio track down several tracks in the process of splitting them). Tried it on a second track, and nothing happened, no split at all.

It does work as it should in V19.

@wjauch the button is called "split stereo to mono".

@Mindmatter, is that the Tools - Scripting - Stereo to Mono script? Or another script you picked up somewhere else? The built-in "Stereo to Mono" script appears to be working fine so this must be a script you acquired somewhere else. Plus, the built-in script doesn't have an icon associated with it.

I think you'd need to show the text of that script in order to see what might be happening.

Running the Tools - Scripting - Stereo to Mono script I have been unable to reproduce @Mindmatter result, however I am finding that either I can only run the script once ( trying a second time on a different track, nothing happens, and this continues even after saving veg file closing and reopening VP20), or that on first running the script also runs, not just on selected track, but also on some clips on another track. Strange behavior.

It's part of Vegasaur. I never had an issue with it until V20.

@Mindmatter, then you'll have to check with the Vegasaur author or use one of the other alternatives.
