V21 Video media generators - does anyone use them?

wilco-n wrote on 11/5/2025, 12:43 AM

Hi all,

I am using the media generator to create a box to go around an insert on my main video.

Does anyone actually use this tool?

I ask because I am having a devil of a time trying to grab the very little handles on my 4K screen.

There must be a better way or am I missing something so simple?

Here is me attempting to create the box I want. I edited its length to save others the pain of watching it.

A hand does show on the screen when working with it but I must have turned it off for the recording. Is there a way to make it an arrow?

@wilco-n I've used this in the past and I do agree, the fixed size of the FX UI is a problem, even on my 1920x1080 monitor. I'm afraid you are stuck with the hand for manipulating the gradient control points. You could try the Windows key/+ key combination to magnify the screen then use the mouse to move to the UI. The control points then become easier to move. When you've finished, use the Windows key/Esc key combination to get back to normal view. Not a solution I agree, but a suitable workaround.

I think I will pass on using it.

What do others do in place of that function?

@wilco-n A lot of us have Boris Continuum which has multiple fxs, many have other plugin fxs too. Also I have the free version of Happy Otter Scripts that will open an image on the VP timeline in a photo editor of choice (for me that's GIMP), there I can create a border for instance & then return to Vegas where the border is applied..

PS, these are Continuum 2024's fxs (BCC & BCC+) , there's gradients amongst other fxs & a lot of them inc Mocha tracking/masking.

One option is to use Track Motion placement/sizing functions on an upper Vegas Pro track with the insert video/image on that track motion track:

... then click the glow checkbox. The color and amount of glow can be set in the "2D Glow" control settings.

The downside is if you have lots of differently shaped inserts, it will then either be a case of placing each insert on a different track motion track or using keyframing on the one track motion track to custom set each new insert along the timeline.
