V22 248 crashes on every render

Mindmatter wrote on 7/5/2025, 4:28 PM

I cannot get it to render my project. Vegas just crashes and disappears at roughly 75%. I updated BCC to 18.5, newest Nvidia driver.

Footage is a mix of XAVCI 10bit 4k, DJI drone .mov 4k 10 bit. Plugs Lut filter, BCC magic sharp, colorfast 2.

Probably need to port the whole project to V21, like I already had to in another project.

Not good.

@Mindmatter I know this might be inconvenient for you, but could you create a small project that would cause this issue?

I have BorisFX Continuum Complete 2025.5 and NBFX Colorfast 2.

I am using B250 myself.

Thanks Reyfox, but it seems rather unclear what actually causes the crashes, as I had 2 smaller projects on V22 over this year that worked OK. I had to port this one over to V21 yesterday, as things just got worse every time I opened it on V22. Black flashing screens, totely Windows chaos for a minute or so, freeze and crash after that.
I tried older drivers, deleting the BCC plug, same crash at the same spot at 83%.
I can try 250 today and see if that changes anything.
The weird thing is that everything works just fine in V21 build 315.

Issues that randomly appear one day, and not the next are the hardest to pin down and at least present something to the developers.

You mention that you had 2 smaller projects that worked ok. How long in duration compared to the problematic one?

... Vegas just crashes and disappears at roughly 75%.

If watching the render progress in the preview window at the time of the crash, inspecting the media on the timeline at or near that crash point might give some clue as to the cause. For instance, what FX are applied to the media around that area - and could the FX around that point be causing a clash with other FX? Or is it possible that one video event could be corrupt is some way?

With regards to FX clashes, for many years (probably back to VP17 or 18) I've needed to first render any video event using NBFX's 'Cut Away' FX and include the rendered event in the project before rendering the final project; otherwise, the final render crashed at the 'Cut Away' FX point on the timeline if not pre-rendered.

Though not further explored at the time, I did experience once in VP22 a render crash on a project where NBFX's excellent ColorFast 2 was applied to a video event but there was also color-grading using VP22's Color Grading Panel (CGP) at track level. This did not seem all that unexpected since the Vegas team have been progressively upgrading VP's video engine for some time - whereas CF2 (released nearly 9 years ago) probably relies on earlier aspects of VP's video engine. Perhaps try unchecking any CF2 FX in the project and see if the render crash still occurs.
