V23 Stops Working - USB connection - Bug

andyrpsmith wrote on 9/20/2025, 11:37 AM

V23 running on desktop, I go outside take a few clips and plug in my storage card via USB and Vegas V23 stops working.

Come to think of it it has happened before and also during rendering where if stopped the render.

Update - yes I can reproduce this, just plug in USB card reader V23 dies.

Does not affect V22.

@andyrpsmith I just plugged in a USB3 card reader with a card in it, and no crash. VP23 still working.

Thanks Reyfox, the main reader is the Kingston. I use it all the time to get media on my PC. The second is an older one. This kills V23 immediately on plugging in.

I have managed to get by with a Sony MRW S1 for the last seven or eight years.

I still have a Sony MRW62E for Compact Flash, but haven't touched it for an equal amount of time.

You seem to have better luck than me, I have had about 3 over the last 5 yrs two of which have failed. I'm keen to see how the USB-C one goes with V23. I have other Ugreen stuff which seems to be high quality. I would expect the Sony unit you have to be of high quality.

23 crashes on both new card readers just arrived, USB-3 and USB-C versions so I now believe it is not the card readers but V23 bug. I sent the above to Vegas support.

Do you have any other card reader you could try, even my two new ones crash V23 when plugging in?

@andyrpsmith I tried my older card reader while rendering with the Vegas 23 Trial and I have not had a failure. Thanks for sending the information. You might have a unique system configuration that contributes to the errors.

andyrpsmith wrote on 9/22/2025, 6:34 AM

You could be right, as an example there are posts on this forum reporting V23 crashing when cancelling a render. I have done this at least 10 times during testing and not had one crash. You win some - loose some I guess.

Interesting thread. here is my new problem that may or may not be related. Vegas doesn't crash however the last few times i've rendered something to a external USB drive the USB port stops working. Not all of the USB ports, just the one/s the drive is connected to. And the only way I can get them working is to reboot.

andyrpsmith wrote on 9/22/2025, 11:37 AM

Dave, that is an interesting one. I will try it to a USB stick and report back.

I rendered one clip to a USB stick plugged into front of PC and all went well, no issues with the render or stick.

@Dave-Wallin-Eddy

Take it from someone who has used every kind of removable media ever created.

Never, ever render to a removable device. Render to an internal device and copy the files later.

andyrpsmith wrote on 9/22/2025, 11:44 AM

So I can plug and unplug a USB stick and render to it with no issues V23.

Let me try a USB disk drive as well.

All fine, plugging in drive and unplugging, rendered OK.

So I get problem plugging in card reader but nothing else while Dave has problem with external USB drive. Dave have you got a card reader if so can you plug in and out with V23 active. Thanks.
