I've been trying to compress a video clip I have in Quicktime, custom settings and I always get this message:
"an error occured while creating..." + "the file could not be created"
Vegas4
Win2K
When you install QuickTime, you must do a custom install as the authoring components are not installed by default. You'll need a minimum of version 5.0.2 for the Vegas QuickTime 5 plugin.
I've found that because of interdependencies among the components, it's best to just install everything. Since you already have QuickTime installed, you'll need to uninstall and reinstall (or do an update/repair install if this is possible).
I installed QT6, selecting every component from custom install.
Now, if I want to render, the rendering window (the one with the progression bar) pops up for half a second then disapears... straaaaange... Still no way to render in QT format.
Note: I don't have a registration number so I skip this box when installing QT...
That's rather odd you still cannot render now that you have a full install of QT6 (no, a Pro license is not required). Did you try rebooting after you installed QT6 (AFAIK that's not required though you would need to restart Vegas).
Are you running on a localized version (non-English) of Win2K? What is the exact version of QT6 (run the player, select Help | About)? Did you install it in the default location? Does the Custom dialog come up OK? Changing some of the audio and video format selections causes the Configure button to become enabled, if you click it does it properly display a dialog?
Make sure that you have sufficient disk space for your render -- you could try rendering a small loop region from your clip and see if that works.
Also, is the filename you are rendering to really long (like 56 characters or more)? If so, try rendering to a shorter name.
Thanks. It looks like I didn't have enough space. I cleared a few files on my drive and it worked. I already had some space but it looks like the system needs some "loose" to work properly.
