V4 trial vers. ques.

I downloaded the trial version of V4. I captured video with ease. Does the trial version not capture the sound? I have no sound. I read the help information on how to add transitions. I click on a transition, hold down the shift key and try to drag it, just like the instructions said. But when I start to drag it, I get a circle with a slash through it. Can someone tell me what's wrong with this seemingly simple operation?

You don't mention how you captured video...so I can't help you with that one.

Transitions...on the other hand - or any other operation of VV you can pick up by downloading the V4 manual (for free). It has a lot of very usefull topics that will explain basically everything you need to know.

I connected my camcorder to my computer, clicked capture in V4, clicked record and everything went smoothly, but there is no audio. I stated before that I read the info. on how to add transitions. It said to select a transition, shift/click and drag to the timeline. It doesn't work.

For the transition, overlap the two clips and drop the transition on the overlap.

For the audio, go to Options - Preferences to the Capture tab and make sure "Capture Audio" is checked. Also, Vegas only captures stereo 1 so if the audio is on stereo 2, it would be heard.

The Capture Audio was enabled.How do you overlap clips? I still can't drag a transition to the timeline. As I said, I just have the trial ver., maybe there are a lot of features diabled. I would think it would let you do something as simple as a transition.So far I'm disappointed in the program, I don't know if I'll buy the full program.

The trial version works very well for checking out the transitions (so that's not the problem). What is meant by overlapping the clips is....well, let me ask a question.

Do you only have one long clip, or is it broken up?

If it is only one long clip - you are going to need to split the clip where you want to put in the transition (from one clip to another). Then you simply overlap one clip on top of the other.

The default transition is a fade out from one clip to a fade in to another.

It may be better to start off checking this out by reading the manual for transitions. There is a graphic that demonstrates doing two techniques (the a/b roll and dragging/dropping the transition on one event line).

As for capturing the video...you say you hooked up your camcorder to your PC...but how did you do that? there are a gazillion ways to do it (as in Firewire, external digitizer, etc).

I have two means to capture video. I have a firewire for my digicam (a sony something or other) and I purchased a Dazzle Digital Video Creator many moons ago that works like a charm for pluggin in my RCA devices (Analog camcorder, VCR, TV).

So what method do you use to capture?

to overlap clips .. under OPTIONS make sure automatic crossfades is enabled..
then you take the heads of clip 2 and drag it over tail of clip 1 ( 1 ,2,3,4,5 sec whatever length you like) .. now drag the transitions on top of the overlap
