V4: Velocity Envelope seems to get messed up

teknal wrote on 2/28/2003, 1:38 AM
Can anyone reproduce this problem?

Here's the video (wmv 1.5MB)

What is happening is that I put a clip on the timeline then split it. I then color correct one of the clips, add a velocity envelope to the other clip and copy and paste the event attributes from the color corrected clip to the other clip which has the velocity envelope. It seems to mess up the velocity envelope as I cannot then move a velocity control point past somewhere just before the cursor nor can I create another velocity control point past the cursor. Curious if this is a known bug, new bug or am I doing something wrong with pasting event attributes into a clip with a velocity envelope?

Thanks,
-Troy

Hi Troy...

Looks like you found one. It seems to limit the length of the VE to the duration of the pasted attributes' event.

I split a 12 sec clip to 5sec & 7sec segments... pasted after applying the VE and sure enough, the 7 sec segment with the VE truncated the VE to 5 secs. I then trimmed the 5sec segment to 4secs and copy-pasted again... the VE event could not be modified pas 4 sec.

(I hear they name bugs after their discoverer... like celestial objects.)

A workaround:

If you want to restore the VE, you can split the VE clip and the envelope will restore... you will have to also re align the back half by slipping the video, since splitting a VE clip throws off the envelope. It is easy tho, if you note the source TC by displaying the frame-numbers in the events as TC.

Troy:

I am able to repro that bug, and we'll try to get it fixed for 4.0b.

Thanks!

Are you implying that there should be a 4.0-A version available? I have 4.0 - no letter.

Hi Marty,

Thanks! I ended up just saving my color corrections as a preset (not sure what it's called) then applied it in the other clip as a color correction preset. I had done this before seeing your reply.

Take Care,

This is now fixed for 4.0b; thanks for letting us know about it.
(also, 4.0a was just installer changes for the CD version, the application is the same).

Thanks, looking forward to b. I caught it totally by accident when I pasted clip attributes into another clip that had a longer velocity envelope on it. I was scratching my head for a while looking at the velocity envelope on the left extend half way into the next clip on the timeline!
