V6 Capture (device not avail), OK in V5???

Loaded V6 after returning last nite from a maraton shoot, expecting to use it for this project. Attempts to capture w V6.0a (patch already!)fail with "device not available". Device is certainly available using V5 - which I reverted to.

Device: Sony TR25 via IEEE1394 firewire.

I would really like to find out what the problem is: any hint of what to search in KB would be a start... RMA number to return product may also work.

Of course - sony phone support is tied up with a busy signal - could it be a result of selling beta test software as production??? Why does and upgrade set the user back to zero???

A guy could almost get frustrated...

Ralford,
Have you turned off the "Use External Capture Device?" You'll find it in Prefs>Video.
There are a LOT more preferences in Vegas 6 from what was there in Vegas 5. I'm not sure why this is enabled by default, but it seems to be so.
Turn that off, and point to your Vegas 6 capture app if it's not pointing to that.
You can also point to the Vegas 5 capture device in this same dialog.
Vegas 6 has had a few bugs on it's initial release, but no more, and actually less (if I remember right) than previous releases.
I hope this helps?

I may have a similar issue. But in manifests itself during the "Print to Tape" phase. When I go to print to tape, it will render and then begin, and then hang. It will count down as if it is recording, but it will output only black.

I can then turn off my camera (GL2), turn it back on, retry to print, and it works. Every time, without exception. The first attempt is a bust and the second works. It's almost as if it is hardware recognition issue.

What do you think? I think it may be two symptoms of the same problem. I upgraded from 5 as well.

6.0a is basically just the download version...not an actual "fix".

Most are having very little trouble. My experience has been almost flawless. One small problem only with Media Manager.

Are you using dual monitors? If you have selected preview on secondary monitor, then firewire is disabled. This has been the most common problem so far with recognizing cameras.

Is XP recognizing the camera?

OK - finally got through to phone support. Problem is they think of VidCap60.EXE as on EXTERNAL application - external to who (ok, whom ) - the programmer? The "internal" program pops up a docked window, guess that is what the programmer calls internal, that supports HD video. They claim the default is to have the box checked.

Why in the heck don't they have help for the myriad "preferences" that they hide? If I have just missed the help, I appologise if Sony is prepared to appologize and fix the problem if they do have help available.

Sorry, but when I have now paid upwards of $900 for software, V4/5/6, I expect it to be improving. Perhaps this is what happens when a International Corp buys up a boutique software shop...

Yes, really PO'd at the moment, that happens when you are up most of the night attempting to do a basic capture.

On the other hand, thanks for the replies :)

wrt the 6.0a, if this isn't a fix, why tha a, and why doesn't the DVD3 download have an "a" also? Fortunately, with broadband one can afford to waste bandwidth.
