V6 hanging on startup = wowexec.exe

Some of us had this problem with Vegas 5 and it continues with Vegas 6. Wowexec.exe gets launched on Vegas startup and holds up the program. Solution was discovered here and involves copying the smaller twain_32.dll file from the Windows folder to the Windows/System32 folder, replacing the larger TWAIN_32.DLL file found there.

Just changing one twxxx.dll will not change this issue on all systems.
Windows on Windows, wowexec.exe is a part the windows operating system, and supports the use of 16-bit procseses. Do not terminate. Your system is most likly calling a 16 bit dll for security scan or to init a camera, twain, or 20 other possibilities. An example is Norton av is famous for 16 bit dll's, and their newest product continue in this direction, but consider that "dll hell" didn't get that name on a whim!

Don't have Norton installed. Haven't had any problems since replacing the twain file.

I do have NIS 2005 installed and it is not the culprit, at least on my system. Replacing the .ddl in the system folder did it for me. I am using Win2K Pro-SP4.

Yes,
I have Traces of Norton 9Symantec0 on my system and for some unknown reason Vegas 5 calls a removed av dll.
i don;t understand but have fixed it on two system both with different dll's at the heart of the issue.
Please if you find why Vegas is calling a 16 bit dll let me know?
Best wishes,
