V6 will not open 2 instances

In Vegas 5 I have no problems opening 2 instances so that I can copy and paste from one veg file to another. Now in vegas 6, I can not open more than one. I still have vegas 5 installed and can still open 2 instances of it. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have a clue how to fix it? I thought about the pref for number of rendering threads. I have it set to 1 because of the rendering speed issue previously documented, but when I bump it up to more than 1, that does not solve the problem. The second instance tries to load but hangs on the splash screen. Task Manager says that vegas6.exe is running twice and end task has no effect.

This is very frustrating because I really need to combine some edls. I guess I need to figure out how to use veg file nesting.

Thanks,
JAB

I regularly open multiple instances of V6. No idea why you cannot... but wanted you to at least know that you should definitely be able to do it. Try disabling the Media Manager and then loading multiple instances.

Thanks Liam,

Media Manager not running. It is repeatable. When I try to launch the second instance, splash screen comes up and the whole system goes out the window to the point of making the machine unusable. I have to power cycle multiple times before I can get it to boot back in to a usable state. As long as I never try to launch v6 a second time, everything seems fine. I can launch v5 multiple times and can even have v6 running and launch an instance of v5 at the same time, just not 2 v6's.

Thanks,
JAB

If you don't mind losing your "settings" try to launch that 2nd instance while holding down the ctril-shift keys.

I did have an issue crop up where Vegas would hang on startup (not just wehn launching a 2nd instance) and the "solution" was to reset the defaults as above.

I finally fixed the problem by uninstalling everything (V6, Media Manager etc etc). I then disabled Media Manager - as I needed to get a project done and could not afford the hassle of trying to make it work.

That did it. Now I have to find out what preferences are causing the issue.

Thanks a bunch for your help Liam!

It might be time for you to call Sony support and activate your 60 day free phone support that you get with the V6 upgrade. Their phone support is very good.

Could be your audio driver. ASIO drivers don't like to share, so two instances of Vegas trying to use ASIO might not work. WDM or Sound Mapper drivers would solve this if it was the case.
