No. Each release is fully contained. Nor do you need to uninstall prior releases or versions.

Yeah - the Sony approach is ok and simple.

But do not forget to disable your virus application if it is running in the background during the Vegas installation. At least F-secure screws-up (pardon the language) the MediaManager 2.2 installation at the end of the 7.0e installation...
