Positive stuff first: Just tried editing native HDV in V7. PC is a 1.6 Ghz Pentium M laptop, 1 GB memory. Vegas is very responsive and I get a full rate preview – even with multiple tracks. (no Fx). MUCH faster than V6. In V6 I generally used a proxy.
But I was hoping that Vegas would be able to “smart render” HDV. I understand that Ulead Video Studio 10 does this. I took a 12 second HDV clip, with no changes, and rendered back out to HDV m2t. It definitely didn’t smart render given the time it took. In fact, the render was slower than in V6. (2:05 in V7, 1:47 in V6).
As Sony put the effort into improving the native HDV editing, I wonder why smart rendering was not added?
