V7 requires new QuickTime

If you are using .mov media (QT files), Vegas 6 requires that you have QT 6 with authoring components. I loaded a project in V7 that has a .mov file, and it complained that QT version 7.04 or higher with authoring components must be loaded.

On a previous PC I had installed QT 7 (don't remember which dot xxx version), and there was no option for authoring components in the setup for QT. Also it didn't work for Vegas 6.

Does somebody know if QT 7.04 is different, and has authoring components. Also, big question, does this mean you must install QT PRO (i.e. not the free version)??? And if so, is there a freeware version that has the requisite components (I've heard of an alternate QT)?

I have QT version 7.0.2. It appears Vegas 7 needs at least 7.1.3.

I just downloaded 7.1.3 (pro version) and I still can't play a certain quicktime file in v7a. Works fine in 6d.

I just tried a couple of QT files and only have 7.04 installed and they worked fine.

I think it's not the Quicktime video itself which requires latest QuidktimePlayer to be installed. It's more like you use a specific codec which only is delivered with latest version.
